Then we thought about how people actually prototype - usually starting with a solderless breadboard and then transferring the parts to a more permanent PCB. That's when we realized what people would really like is a proto board that makes it easy!

This proto-board is the PCB you always wish you had, but never realized it! We took the basic layout of a quarter-sized breadboard (the PCB has 17 rows) and turned that into a beautiful PCB. The top side has a white silkscreen, and the same markings you're familiar with, to make transferring components easy. The bottom has a 4-hole pad design that matches a classic breadboard, with 4 power bus lines on the sides, and no mask so you can easily cut traces when necessary. We used 1.2mm diameter drill holes so even parts with big leads will fit. All holes are thru-plated for strength - these won't peel off with rework. The finish is a gold plate - you won't get oxidation like with bare copper perf! There are also tons of mounting holes so you can attach the PCB to your project box.

Comes with one PCB and one box header, you'll need to do a little light soldering to attach the box header to the PCB but it's fast and easy to do. What is this sorcery??? It's the DPI Kippah from Adafruit! This HAT-like* board snaps onto a Raspberry Pi B+, A+, Pi 2, Pi 3 or Zero and with a little software configuration, allows you to have what normally would go out the HDMI port come up on a nice little flat screen. *It's not technically a HAT due to the lack of an on-board EEPROM, but it's the same shape as a Pi HAT, and it's a covering of sorts, so we call it a kippah.

This is the Kippah with resistive touch support. But, what's the catch? The catch is this add-on board uses nearly every pin available on the Raspberry Pi and those pins are hardcoded, they cannot be moved or rearranged. The pins used are GPIO 2 through 21 inclusive. That means you don't get the UART RX/TX pins (no console cable) and you don't get the standard user I2C pins, the EEPROM I2C pins, or hardware SPI pins. You do get to use pins #22, #23, #24, #25, #26 and #27, and the USB ports are fine to use too.

The other catch is that this display replaces the HDMI/NTSC output, so you can't have the DPI HAT and HDMI working at once, nor can you 'flip' between the two.

Also, there's no PWM's available so you can't have precision backlight control unless you somehow rig up an external PWM generator with a 555 or something. After power-up, the watchdog is disabled and becomes active after it receives the first reset.

The default timeout is 120 seconds. Once activated, if it does not receive a subsequent reset from Raspberry Pi within 2 minutes, the watchdog cuts the power and restores it after 10 seconds.

Raspberry Pi needs to issue a reset command on the I2C port before the timer on the watchdog expires. The timer period after power up and the active timer period can be set from the command line. The number of resets is stored in flash and can be accessed or cleared from the command line.
