So small and simple, you can use this display with any computer that has HDMI output, and the shape makes it easy to attach to a case or rail. This backpack features the TFP401 for decoding video and includes the attached display so it's plug-n-play.

The TFP401 is a beefy DVI/HDMI decoder from TI. It can take unencrypted video and pipe out the raw 24-bit colour pixel data - HDCP is not supported! The 5" display is 800 x 480 resolution, which is just enough to run most software, but still small enough that it can be used in portable or embedded projects without the bulk.

You can even power the entire display from a USB port. With the default 5" 800 x 480 display and 50mA backlight current, the current draw is 500mA total. You can reduce that down to 370mA by running the backlight at half-brightness (25mA). With the backlight off, the decoder and display itself draw 250mA. If you want more backlight control, there's a PWM input, connect that to your microcontroller or other PWM output and you can continuously dim the backlight as desired.

We have two versions, one is video only and one is video+touch. This version has touchscreen capability. The touch screen shows up as a USB mouse so no special drivers are needed. We've tested it successfully on Mac, Windows, and Debian Linux (Raspbian on a Raspberry Pi). Other Linux distributions may or may not work, but if you're running Linux you're probably used to that. We also noted it does not work with a Raspberry Pi + Windows 10 IOT yet.

Use this micro HDMI cable for the Raspberry Pi 4 and 5.

In particular, we suggest it for use with single-board computers (or desktops/laptops!) with DVI/HDMI output like the Raspberry Pi or BeagleBone Black. You can power the driver over USB as long as your computer can supply 500mA on the USB port, and then feed it video via the HDMI port. Please note the TFP401 decoder chip does not contain a video scaler, it will not resize/shrink video!

This product does not include an HDMI, Raspberry Pi or USB cable (power supply). Use any HDMI for video, and any micro-B USB cable to power the display.

Specifications

Dimensions: 124mm x 76mm x 7mm

Weight: 106g

Resources

Downloads and Tutorial

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0983/1268/3883/files/hdmi-5-800-x-480-display-backpack---with-resistive-touchscreen-discontinued_1.jpg?v=1787257254
hdmi-4-pi-7-display-no-touchscreen-1024x600-w-mini-driver-discontinued
HDMI 4 Pi: 7" Display no Touchscreen 1024x600 w/ Mini Driver [Discontinued]

Yes, this is a 7" TFT display with 1024x600 resolution and a cute little driver board. It is great for when you need a lot of space for graphics or a user interface. These screens are commonly seen in consumer electronics, such as miniature TV's, GPS's, handheld games car displays, etc. A 40-pin connector has 8 red, 8 green, and 8 blue parallel pins, for 24 bit colour capability.

This version has a 4-wire resistive touchscreen attached It's exactly the same TFT display as PID 2353 but with a resistive touch panel so it is a little more expensive.

This is a "raw pixel-dot-clock" display and does not have an SPI/parallel type controller or any kind of RAM. The display is supposed to be constantly refreshed, at 60Hz, with a pixel clock, V sync, H sync, etc. There are some high-end processors such as that used in the BeagleBone that can natively support such RGB TTL displays. However, it is extremely rare for a small microcontroller to support it, as you need dedicated hardware or a very fast processor such as an FPGA. Not only that, but the backlight requires a 125-150mA constant-current mode boost converter that can go as high as 9V, instead of our other small displays that can run the backlight off of 5V.

For that reason, we are carrying it as a companion to the Adafruit RA8875 driver board in the store, which is a chip that can handle the huge video RAM and timing requirements, all in the background. That's the best way to interface this display to just about any microcontroller (including Arduino & friends)

If you want to control with from an HDMI or DVI output, check out our TFP401 driver board. The AR1100 is a nice chip that solves this problem by acting as a touch->USB converter and also comes with calibration software. The calibration software is Windows only, but once you've calibrated you can use the screen on any OS. The touch screen shows up as a USB mouse so no special drivers needed. We've tested it sucessfully on Mac, Windows, and Debian Linux (Raspbian on a Raspberry Pi). Other Linux distributions may or may not work, but if you're running Linux you're probably used to that. We also noted it does not work with a Raspberry Pi + Windows 10 IOT yet.

This version comes in 1024x600 instead of the more expensive 1280x800 display. It's also not IPS so it's not good for wide-angle visibility. Because of the way the screen is made, the resistive touchscreen we have added on top does not work on the top 2mm of the TFT.

There's a little wired PCB with little buttons that let you enter a menu system for adjusting brightness, color and contrast. For 8-bit interface fans we've written a full open source graphics library that can draw pixels, lines, rectangles, circles, text, and more. For SPI users, we have a library as well, it's separate from the 8-bit library since both versions are heavily optimized. For resistive touch, we also have a touch screen library that detects x, y and z (pressure) and example code to demonstrate all of it.
