Black Cherry Plum 'Nigra'

The 'Nigra' flowering cherry is a stunning, medium-sized deciduous tree with a round-headed form, known for its deep, rich purple leaves and early spring blooms. Single, pale pink flowers open from darker pink buds before the leaves emerge, creating a striking contrast and bringing colour to the garden early in the season. Even in winter, its silhouette adds interest to garden landscapes, whether formal or natural.

Rootstock: Colt

Age of tree at despatch: 2 years

Height at full growth: 12m/40ft

Most trees are delivered as bare-rooted specimens, approximately 3.5ft - 5ft (105cm - 140cm) in height, depending on the variety.

For delayed planting due to waterlogged or frozen soil, store trees in a frost-free, airy location, keeping roots just moist in damp compost. For optimal pollination, select trees from the same or adjacent flowering groups.

The majority of trees we ship have been pruned and may appear trimmed.
